Support Healthy School Meals for All NY Kids
Act Now: Organizational Sign-on Letter

Join the diverse coalition of anti-hunger, education, food, and nutrition organizations and associations asking Governor Hochul to take action in the FY 2023 Executive Budget to include Healthy School Meals for All NY Kids. This would ensure that every K-12 student in New York has equal access to a nutritious breakfast and lunch at school to support their health and academic success.

Providing healthy school meals at no cost for every student in New York State—regardless of income—is a critical investment in the health and well-being of New York’s students, ending child hunger in schools, and building equity in our education and health system. This is a critical time to invest in school meals with current federal waivers set to expire in June 2022, effectively ending free meals for nearly 800,000 students across 2,000 schools in New York.

The federal school meal programs have played a central role in reducing hardship during the pandemic. The ability to serve all students a nutritious meal should not be rolled back as we begin to recover. We strongly believe that like textbooks and transportation, school meals should be a part of a child’s education in New York.

While we continue to urge Congress to expand access to school meals through the Build Back Better Act, we must also advocate with Governor Hochul to include Healthy School Meals for All NY Kids in the FY 2023 Executive Budget. Sign now on behalf of your organization and please share with your networks: https://forms.gle/kaBUYQ9zoXUWu8sA7

Deadline to sign-on: December 1st COB.
