It’s National CACFP Week! Join us in celebrating the child care providers, afterschool programs, and schools that serve healthy meals and snacks to children through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). CACFP reimburses eligible afterschool programs and child care providers for serving healthy meals and snacks to children in their care. Participation alleviates hunger and supports kids’ learning, development, and formation of lifelong healthy eating habits. Thousands of providers across New York already participate in CACFP. Many more are eligible but not enrolled. This CACFP Week, take action to help us spread the word and expand access to this valuable program. |

CACFP Week: Celebrating Providers Making a Difference As part of our CACFP Week celebration, we're spotlighting two CACFP Ambassadors whose work shows what CACFP makes possible every day. At The Academy for Young Scholars in Binghamton, owner Anna Raheem has spent over a decade weaving mealtimes into the learning day. Anna builds positive food habits through hands-on cooking activities, from preschoolers making snacks to baking a cake together for the Academy's 11th anniversary. At Jessica's Daycare in Monticello, owner Jessica Dean takes a "seed to belly" approach. Children grow and harvest produce in a garden, and help create dishes like fresh tomato caprese salad and sweet potato brownies. For both programs, CACFP reimbursement does more than help cover food costs. It supports the kind of thoughtful, nourishing programming that families count on. |
