Tuesday, October 11, 2022
12-12:45 PM

Join us and our partners at NYS Network for Youth Success to learn how schools and afterschool programs can provide free, healthy meals and snacks through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). We’ll share the basics of afterschool meals, including an overview of eligibility, meal patterns, and reimbursements, then hear from current program operators about their experiences and best practices. Not sure if you can make it? Register anyway to receive follow-up resources.

Get Ready for NY CACFP Week, October 2-8, 2022

Join us and NYS Network for Youth Success as we celebrate NY CACFP Week, an opportunity to recognize the invaluable work of NY’s CACFP providers, and encourage more eligible providers to join. CACFP provides federal funding to help child care and afterschool program providers serve healthy meals and snacks to children in their care. While thousands of providers participate across the state, there is room for growth, with only about half of eligible child care providers — and even fewer afterschool programs — currently enrolled.

This NY CACFP Week, share your CACFP success story on social media or use one of these sample posts:

  • #CACFP helps #afterschool and #childcare providers pay for healthy meals & snacks for kids in their care. In NY, thousands of providers participate, but many more could! Learn more: ChildCareMealsNY.org #CACFPweekNY
  • This #CACFPWeekNY, we are extending a huge THANK YOU to NY’s #childcare providers, #afterschool programs, CCR&Rs & other #CACFP champions. We are beyond grateful for your work to nourish NY's children. Learn more about CACFP: ChildCareMealsNY.org

Read our NY CACFP Week blog post for more ideas to spread the word to expand access to this valuable program.

It’s Not Too Late: Child Tax Credit for Families in New York

Households with low or no incomes can still get thousands of dollars in federal money with the Child Tax Credit — even if they have never filed taxes before or have not filed this year. It is estimated that at least 200,000 children in New York could miss out on $3,000 or more if their parent/guardian has not yet filed. Now more than ever, it is important to get money to the families who need it.

Code For America has created a tool, GetCTC.org, to reduce barriers to people without filing requirements. This tool enables people to claim the Child Tax Credit and third stimulus payment (up to $5,000 per eligible child). People can sign up in 15 minutes or less on their mobile devices in English or Spanish. People must file before November 15 to easily get this money this year.

School districts and other youth-serving organizations are crucial in spreading the word to families. Find multilingual outreach materials you can share with families, including flyers, template emails, texts and robocalls. Families can be directed to getctc.org/nynkh to sign up.

For more information or support — or to request your own unique url to track sign ups through your organization — email outreach@getyourrefund.org or sign up here
