New York State Summer EBT Basics Schools, community-based organizations, libraries, and others can help parents and caregivers of eligible students better understand Summer EBT. Below are some helpful program basics about how Summer EBT works in New York: - Families receive a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child on an EBT card.
- Most eligible children will receive benefits automatically, but some will need to apply.
- Each child will receive Summer EBT benefits on their own card. Benefits will be issued on existing Summer EBT cards and, in some cases, Pandemic EBT cards. Please note that Summer EBT benefits will not be issued on SNAP cards.
- Families should keep their cards from year to year. When cards are not in use, NYS OTDA recommends that parents/caregivers use the freeze card feature to protect benefits from scam-related theft.
- Benefits should be used as soon as possible. Summer EBT benefits expire faster than SNAP benefits—122 days after being issued.
- Children can use both summer meals and Summer EBT to get the nutrition they need.
