It’s time to start planning for summer meals! Statewide, more than 1.5 million low-income children rely on free or reduced-price school meals to fuel their learning; however, when school is out for summer, children lose access to this critical nutrition support. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is designed to fill this gap to ensure children get the nutrition they need to thrive year-round. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is now accepting applications for the 2024 Summer Food Service Program. NYSED will also hold mandatory sponsor training webinars in April for sponsors planning to participate in summer 2024. View NYSED's announcement for more information and to learn more about the application process. | |
ICYMI: More Out-of-School Time Resources National CACFP Week Is March 10-16! Stay tuned for sample social media posts, other ways to show your support, and additional information. Through CACFP’s At-Risk Afterschool Snack/Supper component, eligible afterschool programs can serve healthy meals and snacks after school, on weekends, and during holiday breaks throughout the school year. While many schools already serve afterschool snacks through NSLP, CACFP provides an opportunity to provide greater nutrition for students and 4x the reimbursement for schools when providing a complete meal. To be eligible for CACFP, the afterschool program must be located within the attendance area of a school where 50% or more of the students qualify for free or reduced-price school meals.
