Connect Families to WIC with Wanda |
|
Chat with Wanda Good nutrition during pregnancy and early childhood helps kids grow healthy and strong. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy food and more to pregnant and postpartum participants, infants, and kids under five. WIC serves 370,000 New Yorkers each month, which is only about half of those who are eligible to participate. That’s why the New York State Department of Health created Wanda, the new WIC virtual assistant. With Wanda, it’s easier than ever for families to connect with WIC. In a friendly and conversational tone, Wanda asks potential participants if they’re pregnant or planning to be, the age and number of children in the family, if the household can meet income guidelines, and other questions that prescreen for WIC eligibility. In less than three minutes, families can learn about WIC services, find out if they may be eligible, and get referrals to WIC clinics near them. Wanda is easy to use on a computer, tablet or phone. If you work with families who are pregnant or raising young children, encourage them to chat with Wanda to learn if WIC is right for them. Dads, grandparents, guardians, foster parents, and other caregivers can also apply for WIC for children in their care. Working families and non-U.S. citizens can qualify, too. |
