Take Action to Protect SNAP and WIC
Join Our Week of Action This Week,
March 16-20

Amid rising food insecurity and unprecedented federal cuts to SNAP, state action is needed to protect New York families’ access to SNAP and WIC. As state leaders negotiate details of the final budget, you can help elevate the urgency of state investment in these vital programs.

Join Hunger Solutions New York’s statewide Week of Action to Protect SNAP and WIC this week. Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Call your state representatives: Your voice can make a difference in the final weeks of budget negotiations. We encourage you to call the offices listed here. Please highlight these key messages and urge your representatives to:

  • Ensure New Yorkers across the state can access SNAP application assistance — especially as families navigate harsh changes to SNAP eligibility, budget rules, and work reporting requirements due to federal cuts. State investment of $8.5 million for the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) will sustain New York’s network of SNAP navigators and maintain statewide access to individualized SNAP application and recertification assistance.

  • Protect access to WIC. Participation in WIC in New York has increased nearly 25 percent since 2020, while WIC local agencies have remained nearly flat-funded for the past decade. Additional state funding will help stabilize services at local agencies and ensure access to WIC's essential health and nutrition services.

  1. Send an email: Use our click-to-action tool to email Governor Hochul, your representatives, and leaders in the New York State Legislature.

  2. Post on social media: Use our toolkit to spread the word about protecting New Yorkers’ access to SNAP and WIC!

Thank you for adding your voice in support of critical investments to alleviate hunger in this year’s budget. Please share this Week of Action email with friends, colleagues, and advocates.
