National Public Health Emergency Extended The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) renewed the COVID-19 public health emergency through October 13, 2022. This extension enables New York State to continue to seek approval from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) to issue monthly emergency allotment (EA) benefits to all SNAP households. SNAP EAs are expected to continue each month until the COVID-19 public health emergency is lifted in our nation. Find updates about SNAP EAs on our COVID-19 page. |

SNAP Treatment of COVID-19 Health Care Worker Bonus Payments Due to legislation included in the NYS 2022-2023 State Fiscal Year Budget, some frontline health care and mental hygiene workers may receive $3,000 bonuses to encourage recruitment and retention in the health care field during a time of staff shortages and turnover. The budget requires that these bonuses be exempted for public assistance purposes. For SNAP, these payments are excluded from being counted as income. However, for any SNAP participant or applicant that is subject to a resource test, these payments are considered countable resources in the month they are received and remain a countable resource as long as they are readily available to the household. Visit our COVID-19 page for more information. |
